Yulianna Poroshyna is an international student who came to France, at Esdes Business School to study in our Bachelor in Business. This is her vision of studying at our school.
Choosing where to study is a big decision, and for me, France—and specifically Lyon—was the perfect choice. Known for its world-class education system, rich culture, and vibrant student life, France attracts students from all over the world. In this article, I'll share why studying in France is a great opportunity, what makes Lyon a fantastic student city, and why I chose ESDES for my business studies.
France has a long history of academic excellence, dating back to the Middle Ages. With over 70 public universities and numerous private institutions, the country offers diverse programs recognized worldwide. Prestigious business schools, like ESDES, are accredited by institutions such as CGE, EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, ensuring that their education meets international standards. One of the things that impressed me was how accessible higher education is in France. Unlike some countries, you don’t need to pass entrance exams if you have a French Baccalauréat or are transferring from another university. For master’s programs, an interview is often required, where you discuss your career goals and motivations.
Studying in France isn’t just about classes—it’s also about experiencing the culture. From exploring historical landmarks and museums to enjoying delicious food and vibrant nightlife, there’s always something to do. Many students also take advantage of extracurricular courses in cooking, fashion, sports, and more. Personally, I love how easy it is to balance studying with discovering everything France has to offer, for example, exploring the Fête des Lumières in Lyon, enjoying the Christmas markets with friends, or taking weekend trips to nearby regions.
Lyon is the third-largest city in France and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and dynamic economy. It’s a city that blends history with modernity, offering both picturesque old towns and contemporary business districts. Plus, its location in southeastern France makes it easy to travel to other European cities.
Living in Lyon has been an incredible experience for me. I love that the city is large enough to have everything I need but still feels welcoming and easy to navigate. I remember my first ride on the metro—it was surprisingly simple, and I quickly got used to the efficient public transportation system. The cost of living is more manageable compared to cities like Paris, which makes student life less stressful. And of course, the local food scene is unbeatable—Lyon is known as the gastronomic capital of France! My friends and I often explore local bouchons, and we've made it a tradition to try a new dish every month.
Lyon is home to over 150,000 students, creating a vibrant and diverse community. There are numerous student associations, cultural events, and social activities that make it easy to meet people and feel connected. For international students like me, Lyon is especially welcoming. The city offers resources and support to help students adapt, from language classes to cultural integration programs.
Among the many universities in Lyon, ESDES stood out to me because of its international focus and innovative approach to business education. The school combines academic theory with real-world experience, preparing students to succeed in today’s global economy. With diverse student groups, experienced professors, and practical projects, ESDES offers a learning environment that’s both challenging and rewarding.
One aspect I appreciate is the strong connection between ESDES and the business world. While we contact companies ourselves for internships, professors are always willing to offer guidance and share their networks. The school also organizes events where students can meet professionals and learn about different industries.
ESDES isn’t just about academics—it’s about growing as a person. Programs like SoliCity, which blend education with humanitarian missions, have had a personal impact on me. Listening to students from previous years share their experiences—whether volunteering locally or abroad—made me realize how much this program helps you grow both personally and professionally. I can’t wait for my turn to participate and gain new perspectives. Plus, with internships starting in the second year, I appreciate how ESDES makes it easier to apply what we learn in class to real-world situations, and I’ve heard some funny and insightful stories from older students that have me both excited and curious for what’s to come.
Choosing to study in France, and specifically in Lyon at ESDES, has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The combination of world-class education, vibrant student life, and cultural richness makes this experience genuinely special. Whether getting lost in Lyon’s historic streets, laughing with classmates during group projects, or discovering new career opportunities, every day is a chance to grow and create memories. If you’re considering studying abroad, I can confidently recommend France—and if business is your passion, ESDES is the perfect place to start your journey.
