7 July 2024
Every year, more and more student move to Annecy for their studies. With more and more attractive schools such as Esdes Business School, Annecy is becoming a very interesting city for French and international student.
Coming to study in a town we don’t know is not always as easy as we think. This is where we come to help you and propose a little guide around Annecy and its activities to do in your spare time.
Capital of the Haute-Savoie region, Annecy is a historic city and is known for its blue lake and its canals that run through the old town. Walking around Annecy’s old town is always a true delight.
But during the different seasons, the activities aren’t always the same (yes, you can’t always swim in the lake, spoiler!).
Usually, the start of the university year is in September so it’s still summer!
It’s still sunny, the lake is at a good temperature, and the tourists are usually gone by the time you get there. The first thing to do in Annecy is obviously going for a walk along the lake and to the different beaches, such as: La Plage Municipale de Sevrier, Plage de l’Impérial, Plage de Saint-Jorioz and more. Every beach is easy to access by foot, so no need to think of the bus! After a long beach day, walk towards the old town, where you can have wonderful flavored ice-creams to refresh yourself.
Then comes the autumn season…
Annecy in Autumn is just as pretty as it is in summer. The weather is still good and not too cold. Not too cold for a bike ride! You can rent a bike everywhere in Annecy. Every meter you walk, there is a bike shop on your left or right. You have 8 biking stations in Annecy where you can rent for the day at a reasonable price for a student. And then off you go on one of the many cycling routes around the lake and further away.
The end of the year rimes with Winter...
Well, this is the season to be cold! There is definitely more than one way to explore the moutains in winter, to experience nature’s peace and quiet. Annecy is in the moutains, so what can you do? Ski! At about 20 minutes from Annecy and easy access with the bus, the Semnoz resort offers downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, walking routes, and restaurants! A bit further away is the Talloires-Montmin resort that also offers nice ski slopes. From the 25th of November until the beginning of January of the next year, you can find a big market of food and drinks called “La Montagnette”, every day from 11am to 9.30pm in front of the shopping center and a 3-min walk from Annecy’s train station. What a good way to finish the day!
Finally, Spring time!
That was a quick ride around the year, don’t you think? To have a nice spring day, you can take a nice stroll around the Old Town of Annecy, discover the buildings, the pedestrian streets and the canals. Annecy’s typical market of the old town is around on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. For lunch, you can enjoy the first rays of sunshine to have a typical dish on a terrace. Then, you can always embark on a cruise to admire the beauty of the landscapes, or you can even rent a boat or a pedalo for a few hours and have fun !
