Find out everything you need to know about the winter intake, to help you make a successful career transition.

What is a winter intake in business schools in France?

A winter intake is an opportunity offered to students who wish to change their field of study or program of study during the course of the year. Unlike the classic start of the academic year, which takes place in September, the winter intake allows students to join a course during the course of a semester or term, usually in January or February. This means they don't lose a year, and can continue their academic career without waiting for the next academic year.

There are a number of reasons why students may decide to change their course of study at the start of a new academic year, including the discovery of a new interest, the need to reorient themselves professionally or the desire to change their field of study. It's an important decision, and one that requires careful thought and a thorough understanding of the admission procedures and opportunities offered by educational establishments.

As baccalaureate holders, post-baccalaureate orientation choices are not always obvious, and it sometimes happens that students end up in courses that don't really satisfy them, or that they simply realize that the school, the course, the field of study or even the town they are in don't suit them. The winter intake is a solution for all those students who don't feel they've found the right place and who need to reorient themselves immediately, right from the first year.

The advantages of a winter intake in France

There are a number of advantages to the winter intake option for students making the switch. First of all, it allows you to join a course quickly, without having to wait a whole year. This avoids wasting time and delaying your career plans.

In addition, the winter intake means that students can benefit from special support to help them integrate into their new course. Educational establishments often have special reception and orientation programs for students who are changing careers, to help you make a successful transition. What's more, you'll usually be placed in smaller groups than you would in a “traditional” class. This makes for even more personalized, local support.
